Nepal

Overview

At WOW Adventures, Inc. one of our passions is to help as many people as possible experience the wonders of this beautiful world. Nepal is one of those special places. An unspoiled sacred haven; a connection between body, soul, heaven and earth.

To start with, Nepal has some of the most beautiful and varied landscapes on the face of the planet. The Everest region, otherwise known as Sagarmatha National Park, is home to the highest peaks in the world. Sagarmatha means "Mother Goddess of the World" and once you experience the size and grandeur of these monsters, it is unquestionably an appropriate title.

This is the "trek of a lifetime" for most and definitely one of the best treks in the Himalayas. Not only do you get a close up view of Everest Base Camp and the world´s tallest mountains (Everest, Lhotse, Pumori, and Ama Dablam, to name a few), but this unique region is also home to the Sherpa people, a unique culture which acknowledges the Himalayas as their lifeblood. This fantastic 19-day adventure is filled with the famous Nepalese culture of monasteries, mani stones, prayer flags all combined with views that are out of this world!

WOW Adventures, Inc. flies you from Los Angeles to exotic Kathmandu via Bangkok. You´ll have a free day in Kathmandu before and after the trek to explore the bustling streets, tour the surrounding area or just shop for the endless bargains found within this amazing city.

Hillarys airstrip

The trek begins with a short, exhilarating morning flight to Lukla, "Hillary´s" airstrip at 9,200´; We follow in the footsteps of the early explorers and climbers on this classic approach to Everest. At first we trek through beautiful birch and flowering rhododendron forests which give way to a landscape of rocky open valleys brimmed with massive glacial topped mountains and shear cliffs.

Kala Patar WOW Adventures, Inc. has hired local Sherpa porters to carry our packs, set up camp and cook. All we have to do is walk with a small daypack and enjoy the view! This makes life a lot easier because the trek elevation ranges from about 9,200´ at Lukla to over 18,200´ on the rocky knoll called Kala Patar where we get the closest and best view of Everest at over 29,000´. At this elevation, air is thin and you will most likely be very thankful you aren´t carrying a full pack. All you will need to carry in your daypack are items such as a camera, water bottle, wind jacket and sweater, sunscreen, etc. Our porters set camp up each night, complete with a dining tent with folding table and chairs and two person sleeping tents with foam mats. There are even toilet tents for both men and women. Local cooks prepare food so we can be assured of plenty of the native fare.

Mountainside View

The trails we travel are quite developed, usually wide and fairly level. Though the challenge of the thin air at the higher altitudes is demanding, this trek is not as difficult as most people are led to believe.

On the sections of the trail that are more demanding, take your time and rest whenever you feel like it. Plenty of time has been allowed for rest and most of all just soaking in all of the natural beauty.

Glacier Hikers

The days are usually sunny and cool, with the mornings bright and clear with the skies becoming hazier later in the day . The nights are cold and crisp. However, we will be trekking at relatively high altitudes that can include 10-degree temperatures at night and a chance of some snow showers at any given time. Above, 15,000´ don´t expect temperatures above 35 degrees.

Nepal Shelter There is a saying that the Himalayas begin where other mountain ranges leave off. Exposure to these altitudes require some adjustments by your body, a process called acclimatization. The trek has been carefully designed to allow extra days for altitude acclimatization. We have plenty of time to make our destinations, so there is no reason to rush. With safety being one of our main considerations, everyone will be fully briefed on the symptoms of altitude sickness and its prevention.

This trek is recommended for adequately fit, healthy individuals with a sense of fun and adventure and a willingness to accept all that comes with outdoor living. No climbing experience is necessary, as there is no technical climbing, only walking. There are no age restrictions, however we do suggest a physical examination if over the age of 45. The better shape you are in the more you will enjoy the adventure.
